Field Clinical Specialist, Mid-West or West Coast

EnteroMedics is looking for a Field Clinical Specialist (FCS) located in the mid-west to west coast area. This experienced FCS is a field-based employee whose primary responsibility is clinical support of the company’s products in the commercial environments. This includes, but is not limited to, support at surgical procedures, device technical support, data collection, therapy programming, and patient follow-up support. The Clinical Specialist trains clinical staff on clinical protocols and study devices, and serves as a technical resource for communication between the company and the physicians.

The FCS will provide technical support for all clinical trials, trains clinical investigators and provides technical support for market released products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Represents EnteroMedics at New or pre-established and approved sites where staff and physicians have been trained on EnteroMedics products. Attends surgical cases and clinical follow-up visits in order to instruct physicians, staff, and patients on proper system use.

  • Actively supports and participates in training and education initiatives on vBloc Therapy of new surgeons and site personnel at new and pre-established sites.

  • Partners with EnteroMedics Director of Training in order to review and understand feedback gained from the site, cases, physicians, patients and staff in order to develop future training materials and presentations for new surgeons and site personnel

  • Provides technical and clinical guidance by acting as a resource to ensure optimal system programming, performance, and outcomes.

  • Partners with Regional Sales team to meet existing and potential customer needs, and helping identify their goals and constraints.

  • Responds to customer needs, technical issues, and complaints regarding products and driving them to resolution.

  • Represents EnteroMedics with customers and maintain positive relationship with sites using vBloc therapy.

  • Partners with Research & Development (R&D), EnteroMedics Quality Team and its customers by providing feedback on product performance and possible improvements or new product ideas.

  • Gathers technical data to support troubleshooting efforts and device improvements.

  • Through own knowledge and experiences, anticipates opportunities and works with physicians and company leaders to acquire information through literature reviews, transfer of knowledge of engineering and other technical advances, and assessment of market needs.

  • Assists in the selection of clinical study sites.

  • Conducts training and support for clinical studies.

  • Contributes to the development of clinical protocols

  • Trains and provides shadowing opportunities for more junior level FC/S on EnteroMedics, products, services and job functions and responsibilities.

  • Works closely with the study sites to optimize patient recruitment, and ensure implementation of clinical studies in accordance with Good Clinical Practice guidelines, regulatory guidelines, and the study protocol.

  • Assists with evaluating and testing new product designs and software updates.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience or Master's Degree and a minimum of two years' experience in the field in a technical or medical role or a Master’s degree in Engineering, Nursing, or an equivalent scientific discipline

  • Experience developing and maintaining strong relationships with investigators, surgeons, patients, and site staff.

  • Understanding of engineering principles, human physiology, physician and hospital practices, and operating room etiquette.

  • Strong clinical study and technical aptitude with strong understanding of Good Clinical Practice.

  • Motivated self-starter, ability to work independently, self-disciplined.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and training skills.

  • Ability to think quickly on your feet and respond to needs as they arise.

  • Ability to travel extensively within region.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a diverse cross-functional team environment.

  • Experience with active implantable medical devices and/or clinical studies is preferred

  • Experience with Clinical Trials.
